The NATO and Poland joint military action today against a perceived common enemy incursion into Polish borders is a strong reminder as to however little the action and how little the objects, in this case military drones, the national borders of a NATO country is still the matter of all NATO countries.
Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty lays the foundation for this Don Quixote and The Musketeers one for all and all for one policy,
“The Parties agree that an armed attack against one or more of them in Europe or North America shall be considered an attack against them all and consequently they agree that, if such an armed attack occurs, each of them, in exercise of the right of individual or collective self-defence recognised by Article 51 of the Charter of the United Nations, will assist the Party or Parties so attacked by taking forthwith, individually and in concert with the other Parties, such action as it deems necessary, including the use of armed force, to restore and maintain the security of the North Atlantic area. Any such armed attack and all measures taken as a result thereof shall immediately be reported to the Security Council. Such measures shall be terminated when the Security Council has taken the measures necessary to restore and maintain international peace and security.”
The ambit of the threshold of actions was never truly put in action against the Russian Federation , however ironically, on the September 11th 2001 attack against the United States the article was fully invoked and put into action.
The legal precedent this has set is a historical mark for all of us in the western world, because once again, we have perpetrators of perceived serious terrorist and war crimes or infractions denying any responsibility for the act in itself.
The Russian Federation is denying any involvement in the drone incursion into Polish territories and demanding evidence to the contrary.
The legal hiatus that can extend from such a misunderstanding to the full application of the article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty is not something that can be seen as procedural and to take its own course because reactions materialised in joint military actions between NATO and Poland are precisely the accelerators which delineate new realities for the international world order.
Not so much because every action leads to a chain reaction, and not so much because of a perceived threat by a chain of command of NATO that is still largely perceived as an inheritance of the covert Nazis of Europe and their covert resentment against Russia role in defeating Nazism during the Second world war, but because accession to NATO and leadership in such a platform still propels countries that own very little to themselves like Poland and Ukraine to gain protagonist status, military power and consequently financial support by countries still perceived outside of the west as having the military power to impose an international stratification of powerful financial and moral exploitation against third and fourth world countries natural resources.
In this line of thought, I would like to ask how southern countries will perceive this protagonist status by Poland and Russia considering that historically both countries ( and so did Portugal ) have had a parasitic profit consumption of historical exploitation of third and fourth world countries’ resources.
Poland and Ukraine have benefited tremendously through history from money from first the Soviet Union and then the European Union, and Portugal has benefited tremendously from money from Colonialism and now neo colonialism fronted by iron front companies such as Rio Tinto named after a famous locality in Porto, Portugal.
The historical assertion that these three countries above truly do not know how to manage themselves successfully without the injection of third and fourth world countries injection of profits from unfair trade balances and military conflicts inflamed by greed, and proxy wars, is a reminder that southern countries still would rather be left with only the United States and Russia duality of power in the world – as certainly they would have more ‘left overs’ from the inhumane exploitation they are exposed in unfair trade deals.
However this is not the case, and here we are on the 10th of September 2025 with an incident that could well look like a very serious military incident between western nations, but which in true form will drag all world nations into the matter because Poland is not as usual footing the bill for their military apparatus, talk less ‘well off’ livelihood as an European Nation.
The European Union keeps opening the doors to membership of countries who always lived as satellites of other nations and relied on migration and international subsidies without any regard for how this would put pressure on the United States and other major international key players who despise countries who are largely subsidised by other nations.
President Donald Trump verbalised resentment against this subsidised way of living of countries like Canada, Ukraine, Poland and to certain extent France , is the tip of the iceberg of a rift that will widen into a further abyss between western countries in the wake of this current international crisis that can at any moment escalate into full third world war.
The blurred borders between what is acceptable and what is not acceptable when it comes to the criminalisation of international key players such as the Russian Federation immediate culpability via media today, is a nuanced aspect of the tip of the iceberg that is starting to melt in a season that is still okay to be anti Islamist but is no longer okay to be anti NATO, nor anti establishment as more and more the concepts of ‘ NATO and establishment’ , or better the narrative of legitimacy of NATO as ‘identifiable establishment’ in defense of western values, are being dishonestly weaponised by countries who in reality are far way behind in terms of morality and conservatism of values and traditional gender identities and moral behaviours than countries such as the Russian Federation.
This weaponisation is viewed in places such as twitter , as well as social media that illustrates the populism that racism and the destruction of ‘the others’ is gaining at the expense of such ‘ identifiable establishment’.
This is not a social construct of the west, nor should it be seen as a product of western culture. I am inclined to believe that this is also not a product of far right , nor centre right policies in the west, but is indeed a sign of moral degradation of those who wish to promote themselves as morality champions at the expense of the injection of capital obtained largely from unbalanced trade deals between third and fourth world countries and iron front companies such as Rio Tinto who are emaciated with blood of war conflicts.
Therefore, is paramount that those who believe in social justice, also believe in the power of honesty and commitment to peace that can only be achieved by giving due process to international players that are in this critical period of peace negotiations between the Russian Federation and Ukraine.
The Russian Federation being proven guilty by means of deception and lack of supply of evidence goes directly against such commitment to peace.
The power of NATO is not only a military power, it is also a moral power, and can be lost at any time if western countries succumb to injustices materialised in how certain countries seem to have been projected into leadership without having the historical and financial merits for such, namely Poland and Canada.
Both nations’ projection in the NATO platform is alarming, the least because this success is nothing but a product of injection of international subsidies and place given at the NATO international gatherings between heads of states.
Long gone the times where a Pink map partition would suffice to entitle a country to a life of luxury at the expense of a third world country exploitation and human suffering materialised in famines and structural abject poverty and deprivation.
So I would like to appeal to social justice and international peace activists to join me in this social campaign appealing for a renegotiation of the international trade deals between most western countries and third and fourth world countries.
For the sake of humanity as a whole, but also to curb this incendiary need to escalate international conflicts in Eastern Europe so as to capitalise from international protagonist status and international subsidies that still remain in the shadows of inhumane exploitation and suffering of countries that need help now, because the long overdue bill of exploitation is morally unacceptable from the point of view of those who profit and from those like us who seat in the sidelines and watch the circus unfold into a third world war, courtesy of NATO Article 5 and of our silent complicity with what is really motivating such circus: greed.
