Today I had the opportunity to ask a question to the African Union leadership regarding the international terrorism in Sudan.
I placed the question during the ECOSOCC – African Union Town Hall titled ‘ Humanitarian Situation in Sudan – Understanding Sudan’s crisis, it’s ripple effects, and the urgent actions needed now’.
Initially, my written question was regarding the economic powers and exploitation rights of Sudan amidst civil conflict, but when given an opportunity to ask verbally, I asked not only regarding what I had typed, but also regarding the Human Trafficking and degrading exploitation ensured by Sudanese men and women in the Middle East and Europe.
The answer was shocking as the blame was laid most entirely in the Muslim Brotherhood effect and historical heritage of slavery of Sudanese at the hands of Arabs, courtesy of Egyptians heavy hand in politics and military of the country.
This blame is not prejudicial, nor individually rationalised, but it is yes a common assertion shared generally among people who are living this painful reality in Sudan.
I am particularly worried for the future of this nation because was bombed by Israel in the past when Iran was actively using Sudan as a bridge to transport weapons and money to Hamas , and just precisely a month ago, on March 9, 2026 , the US Treasury Office of Foreign Assets Control added the Sudanese Muslim Brotherhood and the Al Baraa Bin Malik Brigade to the Specially Designated Nationals list under Executive Order 13224.
This is not the United States imperialist agenda as labelled by many academics
Just last year the United Nations Security Council Panel of Experts on Sudan while documenting the illicit flow of arms and gold , detailed the role of external actors in fueling the Sudanese conflict.
I am saddened for what will come next.
To be continued….
